Jay Curtis was born in Neath, and grew up in the upper Swansea Valley. His career in media began as a freelance Reporter with Newsquest Media Group, writing for his local newspaper in Ammanford. This was later followed by a move to radio, after an encounter with the late Ray Gravell during the “wyt ti n siarad grav” road show, where he was asked to work with BBC Radio Wales and Radio Cymru for the remainder of their tour. He then continued to work in broadcasting with music events across Wales including the “Big Buzz” and “Pop In to the Park” in Singleton Park Swansea.
For many years he’s also had a successful association with theatre, appearing on stage from a young age with Torchwoood actor Eve Myles, and Belonging actor Steve Meo .He continues to work with the Glantawe Theatre Company and has performed a number of plays and family pantomimes including Sleeping Beauty and Jack & The Beanstalk. This fuelled his ambition to work on stage and recently lead to a performance at the New Theatre Cardiff as Barrister Brogan-More in the highly successful Agatha Christie novel “Witness for the Prosecution” with the Bill Kenwright Company.
Jay was probably best known for his familiar voice on 102.1 Bay Radio, where he's built up a large and loyal following with his cheerful style. However he is also a regular broadcaster on other radio stations including Bridge FM, Radio Ceredigion, Radio Carmarthenshire and commercials for both Radio and Television. As well as Presenting Jay is also an experienced producer, and currently produces The Most Wanted Chart show which is the syndicated radio show for selected commercial radio stations across the UK.
Since working in Radio, he has interviewed everyone from Soap Stars to Prime ministers including Michael Sheen, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, Ioan Gruffudd, Duffy, Ronan Keatin, Eddie Izzard, Katherine Jenkins, Kenneth Branagh and many more. Aside from Broadcasting he is also a popular Event MC and Auctioneer, where he has hosted major Events, Theatre Variety Performances, Corporate Conferences, Summits, Fashion Shows and Award Ceremonies. Jay is also a keen supporter of good causes in South Wales and was the organiser of the very first Sports Relief Event ever held in Swansea.
In March 2010 Jay made a welcome return to his work in Journalism by accepting the role of a Columnist at Swansea Life Magazine, and later in April became the familiar face of Sky Sports 3D and HD after being selected to front their new and exciting 3D football,Tennis & Golf campaign.
More recently Jay has been busy filming along side Michael Sheen in the New film adaption of "Resistance" in Abergavenny, which is due for cinema release in 2012, and is currently appearing on Welsh Soap Opera "Pobl Y Cwm" playing the role of teacher Phil Prys.
He now also writes for the County Life magazine as a columnist, and can be seen across the Christmas schedule on BBC1's Merlin.
In recent years Jay has also had success in television, and among his many TV appearances is that with Keira Knightley, Mathew Rhys and Sienna Miller in award winning film “The Edge Of Love” where he appeared alongside Cillian Murphy. His other credits include Casualty, Dr Who, Sherlock and a variety of welsh programmes from Pobol Y Cwm to Ar Y Tracs directed by Gavin & Stacey’s Ruth Jones.
